From lakefront porches to farm-edge basements, Slayer Pest Control keeps Manitowoc homes and businesses free of spiders, mice, ants, ticks, and stinging insects with eco-conscious treatments and a 100% satisfaction guarantee.
The city of Manitowoc, WI, sits where the Manitowoc River empties into Lake Michigan, with the Little Manitowoc River reaching the lake about a mile north and Silver Creek winding through the south side.

Shoreline brush, river backwaters, and wooded ravines keep moisture high, and insect hatches steady. The spiders, mosquitoes, and ants that feed on them follow close behind.
The houses add their own challenges. Roughly a third of Manitowoc homes were built before 1940, from the apartments above Eighth Street storefronts to the Queen Anne and Craftsman houses along Lincoln Boulevard.
Settled foundations, original wood trim, and decades of additions give pests plenty of ways in. Newer homes on the city’s western edge face a different issue: they back up to the farm fields that cover most of Manitowoc County.
Slayer Pest Control builds every plan around what’s actually happening on your property and in your part of town. Whether it’s July webs piling up on a lakefront porch or October mice slipping in from a freshly cut cornfield, we know when it’s coming and how to get ahead of it.
Call or text (920) 370-3430, or email Nick and the crew at [email protected].
Most calls we receive are for common pests, which in the Manitowoc area include mice, ants, spiders, yellow jackets, and wasps. During warmer months, homeowners may need help with spiders building webs around windows and eaves, ants entering kitchens, or yellow jackets nesting within homes. As temperatures cool, mice and overwintering insects such as box elder bugs and stink bugs become more noticeable indoors, so we get plenty of calls for them as well.
Moisture, landscaping, sheltered spaces, and outdoor lighting can all influence pest activity around Manitowoc properties. Earwigs and centipedes will be more noticeable in damp areas around foundations, mulch, landscaping pavers, under larger outside storage bins, and basements.
Flying insects can also gather around exterior lights, particularly during certain seasonal conditions, attracting spiders to siding, windows, and eaves. Every property is different, so identifying the conditions attracting pests is an important part of developing an effective treatment and prevention plan.
When you call Slayer, you get the person who will actually walk your property, not a dispatcher reading from a script.
Nick built this company to be the opposite of the big chains, where a different tech shows up every visit, sprays the foundation, and leaves before you can ask a question.
From a lakeside home off Memorial Drive to a storefront on Eighth Street, we take care of spiders, mice, ants, ticks, wasps, and everything in between.
A quote inspection usually takes around 5 minutes, with bigger and older properties taking a little longer. A lakeside home off Memorial Drive, a duplex near downtown, and a newer house on the far west side each have different weak points, so your plan is based on what we find on the walk-around rather than a template.
For outdoor work, you don’t even have to be home. We can quote and treat a nest under the eaves or a web problem on the porch while you’re at work. Once we’ve looked things over, the quote comes to you by text. Say yes, and we can usually start treatment right then.
Manitowoc’s economy runs on making things and feeding people. Food and grain processing, metal fabrication, boatbuilding along the river, and the restaurants, hotels, and apartments that fill up during lakeshore season all carry different pest risks. For any of them, one mouse or roach spotted by the wrong person can mean a failed audit, a lost tenant, or a one-star review.
Slayer Pest Control delivers discreet, well-documented commercial pest management built around how Manitowoc facilities actually operate. That means more than a quick spray around the dumpster. We find what’s drawing pests in and build a program that keeps them out, so your doors stay open and your name stays clean.
Every commercial account runs on integrated pest management, and every visit is documented: what we found, what we applied and where, bait station locations, and anything that needs fixing on your end. When a health inspector or food safety auditor asks for records, you’ll have them.
Service can happen before you open or after you close, so customers, guests, and tenants never see a technician at work. Food-service accounts get full rodent exclusion from day one.
These are the pests Manitowoc homeowners and business owners call us about most:
Ants are usually the first call of the year, but in Manitowoc, “first” depends on how close you live to the lake. Cool air off Lake Michigan keeps shoreline neighborhoods chilly well into late spring, so homes on the west side often see foraging trails before houses near the water do. Once the soil warms up, though, colonies move quickly everywhere.
Odorous house ants, the tiny “sugar ants,” are the ones lining up on kitchen counters in older homes near downtown. Pavement ants push little piles of sand up through driveway and sidewalk cracks. Carpenter ants are the ones that deserve real attention. Lake fog and humid summers keep old window sills, porch framing, and rim joists damp, and carpenter ants hollow out wet wood to build their nests. They don’t eat the wood, but given a few seasons, they can hollow out a sill or header badly enough that it needs replacing.
Our ant service starts at the foundation with a non-repellent treatment that foraging ants walk through without noticing. They carry it back to the nest and pass it along to the rest of the colony, including the queen, so the whole colony goes down instead of just moving next door. When carpenter ants are involved, we also track down the moisture problem, because the ants are a symptom of wet wood.

Manitowoc County is dairy country, and about 61% of its land is farmland. That shapes rodent pressure on the edge of town. Barns, feed storage, and grain bins support large mouse populations all year, and when corn and hay come off the fields in late summer and fall, those mice go looking for new shelter. Homes on the west and south sides of the city usually feel it first.
In town, the problem looks different. House mice find their way into older homes through gaps where additions meet original foundations, around aging utility lines, and under worn garage door seals. We also handle vole control for lawns, where voles tunnel under Manitowoc’s snowpack all winter and leave chewed runways behind in spring.
Our rodent control starts with exclusion. Traps alone just catch the mice that already made it inside. We find the actual entry points and seal them with materials rodents can’t chew through. Then we add tamper-resistant bait stations and traps where they’re needed, and we’ll point out food and storage changes that make your property less inviting.

Mosquito pressure in Manitowoc isn’t spread evenly. Right on the lakeshore, a steady breeze often keeps them grounded. A few blocks inland, it’s a different story. The Lower Manitowoc River watershed holds nearly 20,000 acres of wetlands, and the city itself has the restored coastal wetland along the Little Manitowoc River, the wooded Silver Creek corridor, river backwaters, and stormwater ponds in newer subdivisions. Sheltered, shady yards near any of these can be miserable by July.
Our mosquito control program goes where adult mosquitoes sit out the daytime heat: hedges and foundation shrubs, the shady side of fences, ground cover, and the cool space under decks and porches. A backpack mister pushes the treatment deep into that foliage.
We also set up In2Care stations. Female mosquitoes looking for a place to lay eggs land in the station, pick up a larvicide, and spread it to breeding spots you’d never think to check. On our first visit, we’ll also point out the easy fixes: clogged gutters, boat and grill covers that hold rain, tarps, tires, and toys left in the yard.

Homes near Lake Michigan, the Manitowoc River, and other waterfront areas can experience noticeable spider activity and web buildup, especially around exterior lights, windows, eaves, decks, and siding. Being by the water, there are typically more insects around, which provide a food source for spiders.
However, spider activity varies by property, landscaping, lighting, and surrounding habitat. At Slayer Pest Control, we treat appropriate exterior surfaces and remove accessible webs to help reduce spider activity around homes.
Our spider control service works in two steps. First, we treat the exterior where spiders hide and hunt. Then our techs pull down webs and egg sacs by hand along rooflines, porch ceilings, window and door trim, outdoor light fixtures, and railings. Getting rid of the egg sacs keeps next month’s spiders from hatching, and you’ll see the difference before we leave the driveway.
One tip for lakefront homeowners: Midges are drawn to light, so switching to warm-toned or motion-activated outdoor bulbs means fewer midges on your siding and less food for the spiders waiting there.

Paper wasps love the railings, eaves, and deck undersides of lakefront homes. Bald-faced hornets hang their big gray nests in the mature trees along older streets. And yellow jackets, the most aggressive of the three, nest in the ground and inside wall voids, where you often don’t know they’re there until you’re stung.
Yellow jackets get bolder in late summer. Colonies reach full size by August, and with less food to go around, workers start hunting for sugar and protein at picnic tables, grills, and garbage cans. Near the lake, where fall weather tends to stay mild longer, they can stick around well into autumn.
We identify the species, treat the nest directly (including nests hidden in wall voids and underground), and use full protective gear so you don’t have to get on a ladder or anywhere near the entrance. We also follow up about a week after treatment to make sure activity has stopped. Learn more about our stinging insect removal.

Ticks are a growing problem across Wisconsin. The state recorded a record 6,469 Lyme disease cases in 2024, and a recent Marshfield Clinic study found that 51% of the adult female deer ticks it tested carried the bacteria that causes Lyme.
In Manitowoc, tick habitat follows the wooded green space. Silver Creek Park’s ravines, the stretch of Ice Age Trail through Henry Schuette Park, the Lincoln Park conservancy, and, just up the shore, Point Beach State Forest and Woodland Dunes all give deer and ticks plenty of cover. Deer move freely between those areas and nearby backyards, and they drop ticks along the way.
Deer ticks dry out quickly in open sun, so they stay in the shaded border where lawn gives way to brush, leaf litter, or trees. Our tick control service focuses on those edges, plus stone walls, woodpiles, and shaded garden beds, and we repeat it through spring, summer, and fall. Deer ticks can be active any day it’s above freezing without snow on the ground, so we schedule around both the summer nymph season and the fall adult season.

Box elder bugs are the black-and-red bugs that blanket sunny siding in early fall. In most of Wisconsin, they arrive in one big rush after the first cold night. Near the lake, it often plays out over weeks. Lake Michigan holds its summer warmth deep into fall, so mild days keep coming back, and each warm spell sends another wave to the south- and west-facing walls.
Box elder bugs spend the summer feeding on the seeds of box elder and maple trees, and Manitowoc’s established, tree-lined streets keep local numbers high. Older homes take the brunt of it. Wood siding, original window frames, and storm windows leave plenty of gaps leading into wall voids and attics.
Our box elder bug control service is all about timing. We schedule the exterior treatment for late August into September, ahead of the first big gathering, so your walls never become a staging area. That “Slayer Shield” timing matters: bugs already tucked into a wall void are out of reach of any exterior treatment, and they’ll simply wait there until spring.

About one in six Manitowoc homes is a duplex, a house converted to apartments, or a small apartment building, and there are plenty of older apartments above downtown storefronts. In buildings like these, cockroaches in one unit can spread to the others through shared walls and plumbing.
Indoors, the German cockroach is the usual culprit. It travels in cardboard, packaging, and used appliances, then settles near the warmth of refrigerators, dishwashers, and bathroom plumbing. In damp basements and floor drains in older buildings, it’s more often Oriental or American cockroaches.
Over-the-counter sprays tend to scatter roaches into spots that are even harder to reach. Instead, we use gel baits, insect growth regulators (IGRs), and targeted dusts placed in the cracks and voids where they hide. For multi-unit buildings, we treat the whole building on a coordinated schedule, because treating one unit alone just pushes them next door.

A bed bug problem says nothing about your housekeeping. Manitowoc sees a steady stream of summer visitors, travelers stopping off I-43, and rental turnover, and every hotel stay, used mattress, or moving day is a chance for bed bugs to hitch a ride.
Foggers and hardware-store sprays rarely reach where bed bugs actually hide, and they tend to push survivors into new rooms. Our bed bug removal starts with a room-by-room inspection of mattress seams, box springs, headboards, couches, and carpet edges. Then we treat with professional-grade products and equipment that target every life stage, including eggs, and schedule follow-up visits to catch anything that hatches afterward. Before we start, you’ll get a clear prep checklist, because good prep is half of a successful treatment.

We also treat stink bugs, house centipedes, cluster flies, earwigs, fleas, silverfish, stink bugs, Asian Lady beetles, carpet beetles, and Indian meal moths. Damp lakeside basements are especially prone to centipedes, earwigs, and silverfish, while homes surrounded by open lawns and pasture tend to collect cluster flies in their attics every fall. See all of our other pest control services.
Raccoons, squirrels, bats, skunks, opossums, muskrats, and woodchucks are a job for a wildlife specialist, and we’re happy to refer you to one we trust.
Shoreline neighborhoods warm up later in spring and cool down later in fall than homes just a few miles inland. Here’s what to expect through the year for homes and businesses:
| Season | Months | Primary Local Pests | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spring | March – May | Ants, Carpenter Ants, Spiders, Ticks | West-side yards thaw first while the lake breeze holds the shoreline back; adult deer ticks are out on any warm day. |
| Summer | June – August | Lake Flies (Midges), Spiders, Mosquitoes, Wasps, Ticks | Midge hatches off Lake Michigan feed big shoreline spider populations; wetlands along the Little Manitowoc and Silver Creek breed mosquitoes. |
| Fall | September – November | Mice, Box Elder Bugs, Asian Lady Beetles, Cluster Flies, Yellow Jackets | Harvest on surrounding farmland pushes mice toward town, and a slow-cooling lake stretches out the fall invader season. |
| Winter | December – February | Mice, Rats, Cockroaches, Centipedes | Rodents settle into older foundations and attics; overwintering insects turn up indoors on sunny days. |
The price of pest control in Manitowoc and the surrounding Lakeshore communities comes down to a few things:
Want an actual price? Book a free inspection. We’ll look the property over and text you a quote you’re under no obligation to accept.
Yes. Every treatment we use is chosen with families and pets in mind. The products we use are eco-conscious and EPA-registered. Once an application dries, which usually takes about an hour, kids and pets can use the area again.
Every job follows Integrated Pest Management (IPM), which means:
1.) We find out why pests are showing up and fix that first, which means far less product inside your home.
2.) Rodent bait always goes in locked, tamper-resistant stations, and any interior bait or dust goes into cracks and voids, never out in the open.
3.) Before we head out, you’ll know when treated areas are dry and ready for kids and pets.
“We received a call for a mouse infestation at a commercial property in Two Rivers, Wisconsin, in Manitowoc County. The mouse problem had been going on for approximately two weeks before we got involved. The business had already tried store-bought mouse traps, but the activity continued. That’s when they brought in Slayer Pest Control to help get the infestation under control.
During our inspection, we found mouse droppings in multiple areas of the building, including the kitchen, storage room, and lower areas of the bar. The evidence showed that mouse activity wasn’t limited to one isolated spot, so we needed a more comprehensive approach to address the infestation throughout the property.
We implemented our mouse infestation cleanout program, using our comprehensive trapping approach. We placed approximately 50 snap traps in strategic locations throughout the building, including areas inside and outside where mice were likely to travel or hide. We also installed rodent stations as part of the overall control strategy.
There were several hard-to-reach areas that required extra time and effort. We used ladders to access certain locations and had to work in tight spaces, including bending down to position traps in areas where mice were likely to hide and travel.
Because this was an operating business, we also understood the importance of addressing the infestation promptly and minimizing the impact on daily operations. Effective commercial mouse control takes more than simply setting a few traps; it requires strategic placement, follow-up, and attention to the areas mice actually use.
As the program progressed, we stopped catching additional mice, and staff were no longer seeing mice or finding new droppings inside the building. Those were encouraging signs that the infestation had been brought under control.
The business then enrolled in our Slayer Business Rodent Preventative Plan. Through ongoing inspections, monitoring, and maintenance of the rodent control equipment, we’ve helped keep the property rodent-free ever since. The goal is to stay ahead of future activity rather than wait until another infestation develops.”
We cover the following communities in the Manitowoc, WI area:
One habit saves Manitowoc homeowners more money than any other: take a walk around your house twice a year. Check the sunny walls in early September for clusters of box elder bugs or lady beetles, and look under the eaves in June for new wasp nests and egg sacs. Catching the first signs is always cheaper than dealing with a full infestation.
Here’s what our customers across Northeast Wisconsin have to say about working with us:

Slayer has spent more than 12 years solving pest problems across Northeast Wisconsin, and Manitowoc’s mix of old homes, open water, and farmland is exactly the kind of challenge we’re built for.
Manitowoc has a lot to love: the Wisconsin Maritime Museum and the USS Cobia submarine, the SS Badger car ferry heading across to Ludington, the Rahr-West Art Museum, the Lincoln Park Zoo, and six miles of Mariners Trail along the shore to Two Rivers.
But the same lake, rivers, and farm fields that make Manitowoc a great place to live also keep its pests busy. From the Lincoln Boulevard neighborhood on the north side to the streets around Silver Creek Park on the south side, Slayer Pest Control is proud to serve the Manitowoc community.
Four plans, depending on what your residential or commercial Manitowoc property needs:
Here are answers to the questions we hear most from Manitowoc home and business owners. Have another one? Call or text (920) 370-3430 or email Nick at [email protected].
It’s the lake flies. Midges emerge from Lake Michigan in enormous numbers, and spiders set up wherever there’s an easy meal. Homes within a few blocks of the shore, along the river, or near the marina tend to see far more web buildup than homes farther inland. Regular exterior treatment, hands-on web and egg sac removal, and warmer-toned outdoor lighting keep it under control.
Honestly, no one can. Midges grow up in the lake bottom, and the lake isn’t something anyone treats. Exterior treatments do cut down how many land and stay on your house, and warmer, dimmer outdoor lights make your home less of a magnet. Midges don’t bite, and each hatch fades within a few weeks.
We serve Manitowoc, Two Rivers, Manitowoc Rapids, Mishicot, Francis Creek, Valders, Whitelaw, Reedsville, Kiel, and the surrounding area. Lakefront, river, and farm-edge properties each get a plan suited to their conditions.
For urgent problems, like a wasp nest by a door or signs of an active infestation, call or text, and we’ll work you in as quickly as we can. Response times are usually within 24 to 48 hours from when you first contact us.
Older homes give mice plenty of ways inside. Many homes in Manitowoc have additions, porches, and utility lines added over the decades, and every one of those joints is a possible gap. A mouse can squeeze through a gap about a quarter inch wide. Exclusion work, sealing those gaps with materials rodents can’t chew, is what stops it for good.
Neither one damages your home or carries disease. Asian lady beetles can give a small pinch, and both leave stains and smells when crushed. The real issue is the sheer numbers. Treating the outside of your home before mid-September is the best way to keep them from moving into your walls.
Yes. We service duplexes, apartment buildings, and rental homes across Manitowoc, including whole-building plans for bed bugs and cockroaches. Bed bugs and roaches travel between units, so we look at the whole building, not just the unit with the complaint, and plan around tenant turnover.
Usually not. Routine visits focus on the outside of your home, where most pests get their start. Unlocked gates and pets kept inside are all we need. Interior work gets scheduled for a time when you’re there.
Sure. Plenty of customers call us for a single wasp nest or a bed bug job. If a problem keeps coming back, though, a seasonal plan usually works out cheaper.
